WASHINGTON (TND) — What a year it's been for a young professional basketball player!
Caitlin Clark struck a multi-year endorsement deal with Wilson.
Clark just started her career this season playing in the WNBA.
The WNBA's official basketball maker made the announcement Tuesday morning.
Driveway, NCAA, WNBA. Playing with Wilson since the journey began - now we're making it official. Welcome to Wilson Basketball, Caitlin.Clark, who was the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Indiana Fever, is the second athlete to become Wilson ambassador. Michael Jordan represented the brand in the1980s, according to a news release announcing the partnership.
The latest endorsement deal is a full-circle moment for the 22-year-old.
Clark said she's played with the company's products since she was a child.
"I loved that thing more than anything. My brothers and I would always fight over it,” said Clark. “That was the best basketball. But I’m just super excited to have a collaboration and create basketballs together that are really cool. I’ve seen the designs that young girls, boys, whoever can get their hands on and go dribble in the driveway or take it to practice with them."
The athlete will have input when it comes to testing and advising on basketball gear.
One of the Clark-themed products, expected to be available on Memorial Day, will be three limited edition basketball balls - "Threes Up," Record Breaker" and "Crowd Maestro."
The white and gold basketball balls will feature some of Clark's history-making moments, including the logo triple that helped her break the all-time NCAA scoring record.
“I think it is super special, and it’s been fun for me,” said Clark. “I feel like I was just that young kid who had those basketballs that I would store in the garage. I’m just very lucky and fortunate to partner with Wilson to create something that everyone can enjoy. It connects with a lot of generations, and it’ll be fun to see kids walking around holding them.”
Wilson is giving entrants a chance at winning one of the limited-edition basketballs in a drawing.
