LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WJLA) — Deputies with the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia were investigating Saturday after a father and son drowned in Lake Anna.
Emergency crews responded to the area of Carrs Bridge Rd around 1:10 p.m. after receiving a report of a child drowning.
While crews were still en route, witnesses reported the child's father entering the water in an attempt to rescue his son. Witnesses told the sheriff's office that they observed the father struggling before losing sight of him.
"Several people went into the water in an attempt to locate them but were unsuccessful," deputies said.
Divers were able to locate and recover the bodies of the 42-year-old father and his 14-year-old son.
A spokesperson with the sheriff's office told WJLA the victims are both from out of state.
The father and son were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination. Officials said their names are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
LCSO Marine Units, Mineral Vol Fire, Lake Anna Vol Rescue, Department of Wildlife Resources, and Spotsylvania County Fire & EMS Dive Team divers helped with the search and rescue.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Louisa County Sheriff’s Office CID Unit at (540) 967-1234.
