'Setsucon' anime convention brings Japanese culture to Central PA

On Saturday, at the Blair County Convention Center, the 14th annual Setsucon began.

This two-day convention brings anime and Japanese culture to Central Pennsylvania.

Anime, cosplay and gaming are the three main focal points of Setsucon.

“You can learn about different topics, buy artwork, find figures, books, T-shirts, anything you want to buy, we pretty much have. There’s a great selection of items to purchase, great selection of panels to attend. You want to play video games? We got that for you, too,” said Michael Tartaglia, Setsucon’s director of public relations.

Some say Setsucon is a great introduction to the convention world.

“Anime conventions, I think, are one of the most welcoming and probably most forgiving for your first convention. This is a great first convention for people," said DJ Awesomeous Prime.

“We have a lot of attendees, some who have been going here a long time and some that chose this as their first convention," Tartaglia added.

For those who have never been to Setsucoon before, the cosplay is what will probably draw your attention, since everyone is dressed as a character.

“Something that I wasn’t really expecting to see is the cosplay being as intense as it is. The sense of community anime conventions have is one of my favorite things," DJ Awesomeous Prime added.

The convention lasted all day and ended Saturday night with a concert hosted by DJ Awesomeous Prime.

He says he loves coming back because of how welcoming the anime community is.

The anime convention runs until Sunday night.
